TitaCory
Nakaka-iyak yung burial (first time ever we witnessed what a military honors of a state funeral would be like) rites for Tita Cory. Even yung mga balik-tanaw specials leading to it. I shun some tributes out because Kris was always there. But since the family’s watching here, I can still hear the good things said to our dear ex-prez.
So recent is the surge of tributes & specials to Michael Jackson. Yes, I did stayed up late watching some of those for his flare and scripted glamour. Him being a performer is a loss of a muse– of harmony and inspiration. Having a gift of expression on the finer things of life.
For Madam Cory, its a much deeper value. She may not be flashy or gotten rich performing her duty but she gave us, in the bigger picture, another broad level of inspiration. The underlying freedom & democracy for us to savor among those finer things in life until this very day.
I was one of those swayed & doubtful before, what did the Cory Aquino gov’t did while she was in power? After all, you couldn’t count out the different personalities of advisors who devise tactical moves for every public person there is– that she could be a product of those machinations. But as they say, history really makes you evaluate a persons contributions later on. How a widow given the highest position of power contributed to a country’s welfare? Well, she stayed true to what Ninoy wanted to do for the Filipino people before he was slain. She was not power hungry, always honest, God-fearing, strong & decisive and more. So what did she gave us– an ideal of democracy, a world-reknowned decent leader, her simplicity & plainness and being morally upright.
I am moved to tears for she truly makes me proud to be a simple but decent Filipino.
