It may be too late but this I have to say.
A senator’s job is law-making. Even lawyers themselves can commit mistakes (thats why there should be an active oversight commitee to avoid redundant and useless laws) how much more if one isn’t familiar with the many laws we already have.

Local administrators should be adept in leadership skills aside from people skills and diplomacy alone. Being business-savvy is a plus as one will deal with budgets for projects and support aids.
.
Certain celebrities should not be supported based on face-value or popularity. Am aching what more can they say than their memorized catch-words of dedication to the poor and the oppressed can get really tiring like a prebuscent student who didn’t do their homework and just blabbing away mindlessly.
With the likes of Richard Gomez and Manny Pacquiao how can they be really of help when they’re just gonna be puppets or mainly rely on their staff and just be a front-man or mouth-piece of their senior counterparts to do their work.
With Goma’s short temper, who would believe he could even sit down and make use of his brain power to reason when all he has shown us is just punch out his competition. Did he even take high school or college and have experience in making a technical paper, a thesis or even a decent book report then submit to a panel to defend his paper? How about his communication skills? His overly-rehearsed dramatics of an in-depth serious news commentator in his showbiz talk show stint but comes off with elementary interviewing skills and over-the-edge biased points of view. Whats even mediocre is his Lex Luthor of-sorts portrayal in Captain Barbell supposed genius & business tycoon is very laughable and unconvincing even if he has eye-glasses on!

Manny Pacquiao should’ve conceded Erik Morales’ advise thats if he really wants to help the nation there are other avenues besides government service. It just goes to show how mislead this guy is from believing his sports talent can translate to governance. Aside from speech & context problem, how can he convey his ideas if he can’t express himself well? What practical leadership examples can parallel that to handling a city or a province? Would you rely on a person whose brains are continually bombarded thru boxing? He doesn’t have any grasp of reality how smart everyone is. Though he has supporters in his title matches, these same people are not convinced his prowess couldn’t translate to governance. To do a last-minute accusation of death-threat trick is of very questionable nature.

Also if movie actors are primary running to help the ailing entertainment industry, shouldn’t there be a more diverse list of candidates? Where are the caste representatives of the farmers, the Chinos, middle-class, Muslims, etc. Why is the majority of the middle-class not participating? Only top execs and the poorest of poor are concerned and very active in tackling government problems? Poor people need the government to help them. While big businesses focus in trying to lessen their losses. Leaving middle-class people have to mind their own and deal with such problems passively only through the evening news or during coffee breaks. Then if we need representatives from the entertainment industry, why not the directors, the EP or the creative writers? Actors may be do better at sales or marketing.
.
The reality of it all, the elections is still a popularity contest. Who would vote for an honest candidate whom only a handful has known? There should be more support for people who are of genuine capability and decent character and goals. Also audit should be more aggressive to screen government spending. A merit system should be imposed on officials before getting certain salaries or commissions. They should work hard to deserve the nation’s hard earned money.
Whats worst is we are a nationalistic kind of people but only in the world stage. When it comes down to just us Filipinos, we are really Regionalistic. Ever wonder why old basketball alumni still make an issue of Ateneo vs LaSalle even in their old age? Or why Kapampangans or Cebuanos or Ilocanos, etc stick it out with other rivals as if they were in a fraternity? In any institution, make no mistake why when a new power comes into play, they bring people they trust to replace the old staff.

Lastly, election in the Phils is so dirty, no one can assure the votes are legit. So much so that losing candidates automatically resort to dagdag-bawas or massive cheating that its a fact of life only one can really win per post. This is a problem of COMELEC to assure accuracy and transparency. Did the outright buying of un-tested ballot-counting machines help? Ugh!
