TitaCory

Nakaka-iyak yung burial (first time ever we witnessed what a military honors of a state funeral would be like) rites for Tita Cory. Even yung mga balik-tanaw specials leading to it. I shun some tributes out because Kris was always there. But since the family’s watching here, I can still hear the good things said to our dear ex-prez.

So recent is the surge of tributes & specials to Michael Jackson. Yes, I did stayed up late watching some of those for his flare and scripted glamour. Him being a performer is a loss of a muse– of harmony and inspiration. Having a gift of expression on the finer things of life.
For Madam Cory, its a much deeper value. She may not be flashy or gotten rich performing her duty but she gave us, in the bigger picture, another broad level of inspiration. The underlying freedom & democracy for us to savor among those finer things in life until this very day.

I was one of those swayed & doubtful before, what did the Cory Aquino gov’t did while she was in power? After all, you couldn’t count out the different personalities of advisors who devise tactical moves for every public person there is– that she could be a product of those machinations. But as they say, history really makes you evaluate a persons contributions later on. How a widow given the highest position of power contributed to a country’s welfare? Well, she stayed true to what Ninoy wanted to do for the Filipino people before he was slain. She was not power hungry, always honest, God-fearing, strong & decisive and more. So what did she gave us– an ideal of democracy, a world-reknowned decent leader, her simplicity & plainness and being morally upright.

I am moved to tears for she truly makes me proud to be a simple but decent Filipino.

Videoke

A friend told me abt this.
You can call the local tanods or police station to silence people who belt out of their tireless videoke songs after 10-pm.
.
I’m still looking online for the Ordinance # for our city as the national decree is extended from the "Air & Noise Pollution" act. So far Davao and Cebu are documented here. Will call municipal hall and ask abt it then update it here.
.

Wit these days of night-shift work are common, people should be wary that people would like to sleep early or even catch a nap in the afternoons. So noise should be kept to a minimum just for their own ears . . .

.
The tanods should be reviewing the laws so they know how to carry it out. What saddens me is the offenders coyly said they’re finishing up at 1am then lower their videoke speakers for a few minutes. What they shoud;ve done is educate these offenders of this new law . . .

In the States, dog poo crime and bagoong smell are reported with police efficiency . . . .

Recently watched Christiane Amanpour’s CNN documentary "God’s Warriors".
She interviewed families of the suicide bombers and I noticed that though most of them don’t really embrace the "radical" version– leading to Jihad, of their religion.
.
It’s very disturbing that in the end those same families comfort themselves that their beloved ones who committed those atrocities had a meaningful death and will be gloriously rewarded in the after-life.
.
No wonder innocents will continue to perish if such double-standards will be tolerated.

vote?

It may be too late but this I have to say.

A senator’s job is law-making. Even lawyers themselves can commit mistakes (thats why there should be an active oversight commitee to avoid redundant and useless laws) how much more if one isn’t familiar with the many laws we already have.

Local administrators should be adept in leadership skills aside from people skills and diplomacy alone. Being business-savvy is a plus as one will deal with budgets for projects and support aids.

.

Certain celebrities should not be supported based on face-value or popularity. Am aching what more can they say than their memorized catch-words of dedication to the poor and the oppressed can get really tiring like a prebuscent student who didn’t do their homework and just blabbing away mindlessly.

With the likes of Richard Gomez and Manny Pacquiao how can they be really of help when they’re just gonna be puppets or mainly rely on their staff and just be a front-man or mouth-piece of their senior counterparts to do their work.

With Goma’s short temper, who would believe he could even sit down and make use of his brain power to reason when all he has shown us is just punch out his competition. Did he even take high school or college and have experience in making a technical paper, a thesis or even a decent book report then submit to a panel to defend his paper? How about his communication skills? His overly-rehearsed dramatics of an in-depth serious news commentator in his showbiz talk show stint but comes off with elementary interviewing skills and over-the-edge biased points of view. Whats even mediocre is his Lex Luthor of-sorts portrayal in Captain Barbell supposed genius & business tycoon is very laughable and unconvincing even if he has eye-glasses on!

Manny Pacquiao should’ve conceded Erik Morales’ advise thats if he really wants to help the nation there are other avenues besides government service. It just goes to show how mislead this guy is from believing his sports talent can translate to governance. Aside from speech & context problem, how can he convey his ideas if he can’t express himself well? What practical leadership examples can parallel that to handling a city or a province? Would you rely on a person whose brains are continually bombarded thru boxing? He doesn’t have any grasp of reality how smart everyone is. Though he has supporters in his title matches, these same people are not convinced his prowess couldn’t translate to governance. To do a last-minute accusation of death-threat trick is of very questionable nature.

Political Clans — http://www.gmanews.tv/eleksyon2007/politicalclans

.

Also if movie actors are primary running to help the ailing entertainment industry, shouldn’t there be a more diverse list of candidates? Where are the caste representatives of the farmers, the Chinos, middle-class, Muslims, etc. Why is the majority of the middle-class not participating? Only top execs and the poorest of poor are concerned and very active in tackling government problems? Poor people need the government to help them. While big businesses focus in trying to lessen their losses. Leaving middle-class people have to mind their own and deal with such problems passively only through the evening news or during coffee breaks. Then if we need representatives from the entertainment industry, why not the directors, the EP or the creative writers? Actors may be do better at sales or marketing.

.

The reality of it all, the elections is still a popularity contest. Who would vote for an honest candidate whom only a handful has known? There should be more support for people who are of genuine capability and decent character and goals. Also audit should be more aggressive to screen government spending. A merit system should be imposed on officials before getting certain salaries or commissions. They should work hard to deserve the nation’s hard earned money.

Whats worst is we are a nationalistic kind of people but only in the world stage. When it comes down to just us Filipinos, we are really Regionalistic. Ever wonder why old basketball alumni still make an issue of Ateneo vs LaSalle even in their old age? Or why Kapampangans or Cebuanos or Ilocanos, etc stick it out with other rivals as if they were in a fraternity? In any institution, make no mistake why when a new power comes into play, they bring people they trust to replace the old staff.

Lastly, election in the Phils is so dirty, no one can assure the votes are legit. So much so that losing candidates automatically resort to dagdag-bawas or massive cheating that its a fact of life only one can really win per post. This is a problem of COMELEC to assure accuracy and transparency. Did the outright buying of un-tested ballot-counting machines help? Ugh!

LIFO

With news of uncertainty of Intel retrenchment in the Phils, here are some tips on the matter.

re•trench•ment
Pronunciation: (ri-trench’munt), [key] —n.
> the act of retrenching; a cutting down or off, as by the reduction of expenses
> the reduction of expenditures in order to become financial stable. More…

.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retrenchment ~ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downsizing

Retrenchment means the reduction of expenditures in order to become financially stable (i.e. cutting jobs). It is a tactical concept similar to downsizing. This strategy is often used by corporations under pressure to raise profits, or who are failing in certain sectors and wish to concentrate in higher-gain areas.

Guidelines http://www.workinfo.com/Manual/retrenchment_guidelines.htm

All of mngt heads meet to discuss, once a method is selected it will be carried all through out the company. The tried & tested method is LIFO - "Last In, First Out" for redundant employees. In some cases, job performance is checked. Discretion of the immediate manager or HR is used. Job evaluation and records are checked.

In my last job I was 4th one in the group. Followed by a friend I referred to my then (1st-time practioner) boss. After  a year that boss resigned out of disgust from regional admins.

A new boss enters with intent of getting all his former dept employees (25 of them) from his former company (hint of past trouble). Problem is headcount for dept is only 7. So he became 6th while another subordinate 7th and another 3 hired only as consultants (at the time, he supposed).

After a year with new boss, retrenchment came. One from each dept is to be let go. The last 2 got it. While hanging on 1 consultant and the "last" one– both my redundants. He doesn’t want to sacrifice his guys so thought of an idea to get me instead. Absurd, right?

My job performance is so good and feedback from other depts are so high, it can’t be done. He managed to transfer the last one in another state while the opther just resigned because he can’t get full benefits because of contractual status.

"Kahiyaan", he pursued to strike me off. Torture ensued for another 2 years, day in and day out and still his tricks are ever more creative. You could call him "Banal Aso" as he tells lies of me, character assasination and blind intolerance to others but of which I get easily reprimanded– without even a warning! 2 years is a lot of proving myself that he can’t do it unless I do so. My good, efficient, proactive work is nothing to a person who’s out to hang you dry.

civic

knowing the latest News is one thing but the purpose should be more than that . . . .

Eunice

Eunice Kennedy-Shriver is an energetic, civic-minded lady

The sister of the assassinated President John F. Kennedy, slain Sen. Robert F. Kennedy (D-N.Y.), and longtime Sen. Ted Kennedy. Wife to Sargent Shriver, who was the first director of the Peace Corps. With daughter, now Maria Shriver-Schwarzenegger, and four sons– Bobby, Anthony, Timothy & and Mark, thrive in a household who doesn’t value much of materialistic things but on IDEAS.

Oprah Winfrey, childhood friend to Maria and the Shrivers, often dreaded meals with the Kennedy-Shrivers and hide in the closet because the Sgt & Eunice would always ask them what will make this a better world.

Born in affluence, fate afforded her all the perks in life but that didn’t make her lazy and bum around. Always on the go, always eager for ideas to help people and make the world a better place.

Thats the reason why CEO’s and top brass people of an organization are often paid high salaries, so that they can think less of their basic needs for them to focus on the welfare of their subjects or subordinates. People can make things happen if only they have well intentions with such power.

Too bad I forgot the quote she gave while guesting on Oprah. Something like,
" nice / prim & proper girls don’t achieve better results or make a better difference "
