A Superhero Suprise in "I Am Legend"
Source: Superhero Hype! December 21, 2007

.
This will be old news to many, but now that I Am Legend has been in theaters for a week, we thought we’d answer all the e-mails we’ve gotten. We didn’t want to spoil the easter egg put into "I Am Legend" by writer/producer Akiva Goldsman and let fans discover it on their own!

I_am_legend_supes_batman

In the beginning of the film, Will Smith is hunting a deer and when he walks through a deserted Times Square, fans get to see a quick glimpse of a big Batman vs. Superman billboard. It was meant as a joke by Goldsman, but some fans are wondering if it means a Batman vs. Superman movie is already in development — not so.

Goldsman was once attached to a real Batman vs. Superman movie, but the cript didn’t get the green light. He also wrote Batman Forever and Batman & Robin.

.

In the movie, even though it is 2012, the virus hit in 2009, so Goldsman thought about which movies "could" possibly come to theaters in ‘09. In the video store Will Smith goes into you’ll also see fake Green Lantern and Teen Titans posters.

WW

Worried that the DC triumvirate would falter if Wonder Woman film comes out with big alterations. Rumor say that MsWorld-India Priyanka Chopra was approached by Joss Whedon rumored as ‘Wonder Woman’ contender. Reports also say the Whedon script is already approved but he didn’t want no star-spangled panties. It seems filming is running late since sched should be Batman Begins (2005), Superman Returns (2006) and Wonder Woman for Summer of 2007.

Its understandable if they change X-Men costumes for the movie. From primary colors to dark ones for in Marvel comics world, hate for mutants is prevalent. Another thing, those star-spangled bottoms are of Amazonian heritage– part of an armor created for Themyscira’s Ambassador of Peace. Unless they’re thinking of a dull background story for Princess Diana, I don’t think they should change that. Remember when fanboys boycott (a) Superman going Red/Blue persona’s with Electrical powers? (b) Peter Parker is not the original Spider-Man but a clone took over? Of all the TV incarnations of WW, the most successful is the 3-season ’70s TV show starring Lynda Carter.Wonder_woman_tv_statue_2

Pretty good beginnings for re-telling "Batman Begins" getting A grade reviews while a mildly moving "Superman Returns" gets a B  While on Marvel’s side, X3 gets a B-/C+ and HellBoy (2004) gets an A-. Though their ace, Spider-Man I, got very good A reviews and also for its sequel.

Batman started the trend of teen sidekicks with Robin (I) in Detective Comics #38 (April 1940) and every major superhero got their sidekicks. Eventually all sidekicks banded together they formed the "Teen Titans". Unlike in Marvel, all teams were with an X– X-Men, X-Factor, X-Kids for they thought they were so cool and crapped all the X’s they could think of.

For Wonder Woman, the token teen is is Donna Troy / Troia or WonderGirl (I). Different from the TV version played by Debra Winger as Drucilla.
.

The tragic death of Lyla / Harbinger in Superman/Batman run of SuperGirl (Kara Zor-El) , Troia is now resurrected to take place of Harbingers place in the impending re-structuring of the DCU world in another Crisis. Check this DCU history recap for the weekly 52 Special.

Narnia(2)

The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, The Witch a& the Wardrobe premieres in Manila cinemas in 2006 January 8 (to give way to the Filmfest this December). Click this to see world release and weekend ticket sales.

Among other FAQs, NarniaFan web site answers the question : Why did you start with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe?Edmund_lucy_susan_and_peter_first_arrive

Recently watched a compiled made-for-TV feature which was done in 1988. It was a 3 episode show with 2 parts each (of the discernable fade-outs for commercial gaps). Was done with mascot-like costumes for the Beavers and Wolves then 2-man puppetry for Aslan. Crude animation was used for the unicorns and other magical beasts. Still good for they used the original lines from the book. The slow pacing makes you expect a grand ending but it was kinda anti-climactic.

Highschool Circa ‘65

Its nice to see old movies like this one "Highschool Circa ‘65". Top-billed by Eddie Rodriguez, Charo Santos (Concio), Bibeth Orteza and the young-then Roderick Paulate. It has subtitles so it must be good enough to be viewed elsewhere in the world.

Its funny to see the teen-agers antics here (pranks, puppy loves, conceited, the populars, etc) brush along with many school personalities (the gentleman, the old maids, idealistic new-grad teacher, the enterprising ones, etc).

Its bothering to see that such idealism was shattered by rumor-mongerers and immaturity among people. . . .
