Was curious abt commercially marketed Fitrum featuring the slimming wonder drug L-Carnitine. So I researched and tried it.

It’s a natural chemical in the body during eating but usually in little amounts that can help oxidize fat to burn off and also give u more energy. U need 3 of Fitrum capsules at PhP12 each daily. Though it’s L-Carnitine is only 25mg and with another ingredient 25mg of GreenTea extract (EGCG) TEAVIGO

Later on, DelMonte came up with their own version via Fit&Right juice drink. L-Carnitine supplement at 300mg of the 330ml bottle. initially costing PhP19.50.

At the drugstore, I asked if they have other brand alternatives and suggested CARNICOR. It costs PhP20.50 and has 330mg of L-Carnitine in a white soft pill. I don’t know if anything I read has a placebo effect on me. But I surely can stay longer at high intensity in my cardio classes and extend my work out sessions– even not wanting to leave, lol.

One day after having a brisk walk, I happened to pass City Hall then inquired for a Cedula and some lawyer notarization. After which, I remembered, who should be the one enforcing the "Clean-Air Act" or the "Anti-Smoking" campaign.

The information lady not knowing the complete details, directed me to the Vice Mayors office to ask the procedures or extent of that endeavor. The clerk gave me a city newspaper, Konneksyon, dated June 01-07, 2004. A 4-page spread details the Mandaluyong Ordinance # 279 or the Anti-Smoking Ordinance 2004. Enacted on 04 February 2004 then signed on 02 April 2004. A copy is furnished online. News of this implementation is noted online by the Inquirer / GMA7 news report and the Tobacco.Org referring to the same Manila Bulletin report.

Highlighting important details are:

Rule 1, Section 3 (Objectives) : item (a.) to safeguard public health and ensure physical well-being of smokers and non-smokers alike by discouraging smoking and tobacco use, particularly in enclosed public / government buildings, public spaces and public conveyances.

Rule 2, Section 1 (Definition of Terms), Item 3 : Public Conveyance = mode of transport servicing the general population. Rule 2, Section 1, Item 6 : Designated Smoking Areas = must be fully separated from the smoke-free area by continuous floor-to-celing walls.

Rule 3 (Rules on Enclosed Spaces), Section 1 : Absolutely Smoke-Free Areas (ASFA) are All government / public buildings, Schools in all levels, Hospitals / Medical Clinics , and All enclosed public spaces with an area of less than 100 square meters.

Rule 4 (Rules on Public Conveyances), Section 2 : Posting of Prescribed "No Smoking" Stickers = since drivers/operators were given the orientation (conducted by the City Health Dept (MHD) or the Public Order and Safety (POS) personnels) of this new law & are required to post these stickers, they are to dissuade / give warnings to violators.

Enforcement is done with the cooperation of the Mandaluyong Police Department (MPD) but with the presence of an ASTF (Anti-Smoking Task Force) officer who will issue the warning or violation ticket. Though this is small thing for police to do, they should also help in warning violators if the ASTF is not present. Problem with the enforcement is that the M-ASTF are, from what I gathered, very few– like 15 people or so, deployed throughout the city. You can do your part to discourage violators by knowing what the law is about.

Finally, good news for a healthy alternative of transportation.
Not the sort when you’re wearing your suit and heading to a meeting but one where you can speed off without spending for a costly jeepney ride.

Though I welcome the thought of designating bike lanes but why not improve the pedestrian lanes first. Cycling is good but (brisk) walking or jogging is the simplest way to jumpstart a movement / exercise program for any age group / fitness level.

Without consulting Urban Planners, malls sprouting out of nowhere and very constricted highways (at most 3 lanes on each), walkways or even bicycle lanes will be impossible to implement or maintain.
